Due to a popular request for our upcoming Bakersfield meeting day, we will be doing a roadtrip. This is going to be a fun all day event.

Date: August 14th

Time and location: We will meet up and group together at Harris Ranch located at Highway 198 and Interstate 5. Just next door to Harris Ranch is a Shell Gas Station/Mini Mart. We will meet there, at the Shell Station, at 8:30am and depart promptly at 9am.

The Plans:

We will head out going west on Highway 198 all the way over to the 101. We will then head over and through Hunter Leggett Army Base to Highway 1. While at Hunter Leggett we will visit the Mission, Mission San Antonio de Padus. Donation to visit the Mission is 5 dollars. To get into the Army Base make sure you have a valid ID, registration and insurance. That is a must and before we leave the Shell Station I will personally ask to see all ID's, registrations and insurance cards. So after we finish with Hunter Leggett we will continue down Highway 1 and stop at Ragged Point to group up and stretch our legs. Then off to have lunch at our favorite BBQ place in Cambria on Main St right off of Hwy 1. Then next a trip down to Morro Bay for some pictures by the rock. Then next stop will be Avila Beach and a visit and walk onto the pier. Next location will be up to everyone. Then homeward back to Bakersfield for our club meet at Coconut Joes at 7pm.
Then home and bedtime.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Also I would like everyone on the trip to have a handheld radio. Staurt and Lee this is where you come in. Please post what kind of radios you have since you have gone on some of the long roadtrips. That way we can all buy the same or at least the same manufacture and be on the same channels.

So how does this trip sound? Would you like to add anymore stops or any suggestions?

A good radio and the antenna will set you back over a $100. dollars. Also we do not use the hand held ones but ours are are normal CB radios. I would say buy it only if you want to. Not necessary needed for this trip. We do not want anybody not to come because they do not have an CB radio. Stuart knows a lot more about CB radios and I'll let him chime in on that. Should be a fun drive, a lot of twisty roads, beautiful scenery and good food awaits. Excellent one day drive. I also believe you might have to show proof of insurance at the main gate to Hunter Liggett, correct me if I'll wrong on this.

I would not run out and buy a C B for a short trip i.e. one day. But I sure would have one for longer trips, makes it much more fun and safer. I have the hand held FRS radios as well but they don't work very good in our cars, I think they pick up too much noise.

I'm trying to recruit some old school Z's (240's) to come this day as well. So hopefully we'll have some new faces as well as some more variety....

If you ever want to buy a C B radio this is the one I have:
http://cgi.ebay.com/UNIDEN-PRO-510-XL-40-CH-CB-RADIO-CB-MODEL-PRO-510-XL-/270616406009?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0

It has a built in speaker and you just put a cigarette lighter adapter on the power cord.
Then buy a magnetic base mount antenna and put it on your trunk lid or on top of your car. This is what I have:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Wilson-Little-Wil-CB-Antenna-Magnetic-Magnet-Mount-NEW-/380257675955?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0

This combo beats even expensive radios ask Lee.
